Handcrafted Glass Lighting Inspired by Nature's Ice Stalactites

The Collection Crypto, designed by Patrizia Volpato Srl, is a unique lighting collection that draws inspiration from nature, particularly ice stalactites. However, the design takes a twist as the hand-blown glass becomes the protagonist, creating empty elements that are visually striking. The collection's design is a testament to the beauty of nature and the artistry of glassblowing.

What sets the Crypto collection apart is its modularity. It can expand both vertically and horizontally, offering flexibility in how the individual glass elements are arranged. This adaptability makes it suitable for a variety of locations, from private homes to hotels and other large spaces. The light can emanate from spotlights placed above the glass pieces or from within the glass elements themselves, adding to the design's versatility.

The production of the Crypto collection involves a completely handcrafted process, resulting in unique pieces each time. The collection comprises 21 shapes, created from seven different molds with three different cuts. The shades of the glass elements are intentionally more intense near the light source, gradually fading towards the lower part of each piece, adding depth and visual interest to the design.

The end user plays a crucial role in the final composition of the Crypto installation, adding value to the finished product by tailoring it to a specific location and personal taste. This user-centric approach ensures that each installation is unique and personalized. The design project was carried out in Venice, particularly in the island of Murano, renowned for its artisan glass masters, and took approximately six months from concept to completion.

The Crypto collection faced several challenges during its creation, the most complex of which was finding the balance between the calibration of the molds and the glass blowing method to achieve the desired vibrant texture. The process was guided by the concept of molecular structures, where single elements combine to form a whole, and the expertise of artisan glass masters. The result is a glass type that breaks light in a soft manner, offering a fresh take on the classic frosted glass.

The Crypto collection's innovative design and functionality earned it the Silver A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2021. This award recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that exhibit outstanding expertise and innovation. The award is a testament to the Crypto collection's artistic skill, technical excellence, and ability to evoke positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
